Khimar Abaya Sets Online in India
A khimar abaya is a two piece set: a long, loose outer cape that falls from the crown of the head over the chest and shoulders, worn with a full-length abaya or skirt underneath. Because the khimar covers the hair, neck and chest in one continuous drape, it removes the gap that a separate hijab and abaya usually leave at the shoulder. That is why most women who buy a khimar abaya are buying it as a prayer set first and an everyday outfit second.
Every khimar set on this page is cut in the same soft Nida fabric we use across the collection: a matte, opaque weave that hangs straight without clinging, stays light in Indian heat and barely creases through a full day. Nida matters more on a khimar than on any other garment, because the cape has to fall in a clean line from the head rather than bunching at the shoulders.
Khimar, Jilbab or Abaya: Which Word Means What
These three words get used interchangeably online, which makes shopping confusing. In practice: an abaya (called a burqa across most of South Asia) is the full-length outer dress. A khimar is the head-and-chest cape worn over it. A jilbab is the complete two piece outfit, khimar plus bottom, sold together. So a 2 piece jilbab abaya and a khimar abaya set are usually describing the same thing, and both are on this page.
Choosing Your Bottom Half
Our khimar sets let you pick what goes underneath. A full inner abaya is the safer everyday choice: it works on its own if you take the khimar off indoors. A skirt bottom pairs with a knee-length top and gives more movement, which many women prefer for travel and long prayer sittings. Both give identical coverage once the khimar is on.
Length and Fit
Khimars are sized by how far the cape falls, not by chest measurement, so the same khimar suits a range of body sizes. Our sets run XS to 3XL on the bottom half. If you want the cape to reach past the hip for fuller coverage during salah, size up on the khimar and keep your usual size on the bottom. Care
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and wash dark shades separately for the first two or three washes. Do not bleach or dry clean. Press the water out gently rather than wringing, and hang to dry in shade. Iron on medium heat or steam inside out. Hang the khimar rather than folding it, so the drape at the crown does not set a crease.
