Mahira Layered Abaya for Women: Dual Color Abaya with Frills in Nida Matte
The Mahira 02 is a layered abaya and also a frill abaya that takes its shape from ruffle tiers running down the length of the garment rather than from a stiff cut or a heavy lining. Each tier is cut from a contrasting shade of the same fabric, so the dual colour effect is stitched in, not printed on.
It is made in soft matte Nida and stitched in our own facility in India, in three colors, with every size available in every length. This is a frill abaya for women priced at Rs 1,549, with cash on delivery across India.

What Makes A Layered Abaya Different
Most of what is sold as a layered abaya online is either three loose panels of chiffon stacked over each other, or a printed abaya with a frill sewn at the hem. The first is see-through and needs a slip. The second stops being a layered design after the first wash.
The Mahira 02 is neither. The tiers are cut from the same Nida Matte as the body, in a second shade, and stitched into the structure of the garment. There is no slip to buy, nothing to see through, and nothing to fade out of step.
A 3 layered abaya in chiffon usually weighs more than it looks, because the volume comes from adding fabric on top of fabric. Here the volume comes from how the tiers are gathered, so the garment stays light enough for an Indian summer.
If you have been looking at a layered ruffle abaya and putting it off because of the weight or the lining, this is the version that solves both.
The Three Colors
Every colour is cut from the same matte Nida and comes in all seven sizes and all five lengths.
Maroon is the shade we photograph it in and the deepest of the three. It is the occasion pick and the one that goes out of stock around Eid, so order early if that is your date. If you specifically want a black layered abaya, we do not make this style in black yet, but our front open abaya range covers it.
Puce pink is the daylight option and the one most often bought as a second abaya.
Teal green is the quietest of the three, and the one to pick if you want a simple layered abaya you can wear twice a week without anyone noticing it is the same one.

Chest is the deciding measurement. Measure around the fullest part of the chest with a soft tape, keeping it level, over the clothes you would normally wear underneath.
If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one. The A-line body is meant to hang away from you rather than cling, so the extra inch reads as drape.
Choosing Your Length
Length is a separate option from size, so the abaya clears your ankle without dragging. Pick the length from your height, then pick the size independently from the chest chart above.

How To Style A Layered Abaya
Because the contrast lives in the tiers rather than in a print, a plain hijab in either of the two shades finishes the outfit. Match the hijab to the tier colour rather than the body colour and it reads as deliberate.
Keep the rest simple. A layered abaya already carries movement, so a heavily worked hijab or a belt fights it.
For prayer, add a khimar abaya in the same colour family and the same garment becomes prayer wear without a second purchase.
The Fabric: Why Nida Matte
Nida Matte, sometimes sold as Korean Nida, is the soft matte weave we use across the collection, and it is the fabric most modest-wear brands settle on for the same reasons.
It is fully opaque, so no lining or slip is needed underneath, which is the single biggest complaint about chiffon layered abayas. It is light on the skin in Indian summers. It drapes straight instead of clinging, and it barely creases through a full day out.
It also does not need dry cleaning. If you want the background on the garment itself, the general history of the abaya is a useful starting point.
Wash And Care
Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle with similar colors, or hand wash. Wash dark colors separately for the first two or three washes.
Do not bleach. Do not wring. Press the water out gently and hang to dry in shade.
Iron on the reverse side at a low temperature so the matte finish stays flat. Hang it on a wide hanger rather than folding it, which stops the tiers creasing along a line.
The package contains one abaya only, without the other accessories (if any) shown in the pictures.

What is a layered abaya?
An abaya whose shape comes from tiers of gathered fabric stacked down the length of the garment, rather than from a single cut. On the Mahira 02 each tier is cut in a contrasting shade of the same Nida Matte.
Is it see-through? Do I need a slip underneath?
No slip needed. Nida Matte is fully opaque, unlike the chiffon most layered abayas are made from.
Is the second color printed on?
No. The tiers are cut and stitched from a second shade of the same fabric, so both colors wear, wash and fade identically.
How is this different from a tiered abaya?
Very little, and the words are used interchangeably. If you want full tiers all the way from the shoulder, our multi tiered abaya range is the heavier, fuller version.
Which size and length should I pick?
Chest measurement for the size, height for the length. They are separate options, so any combination of the two is available.
Is a layered abaya suitable for daily wear?
In teal green or puce pink, yes. Nida Matte barely creases and needs no dry cleaning. Maroon reads more as occasion wear.
Is this an abaya or a burqa?
It is a full-length abaya. Burqa is the common South Asian term for the same garment. It does not include a face veil.
