Nida Matte fabric

Every piece in this range is cut from Nida Matte, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a cost one. Nida Matte is a premium-weight polyester crepe with a flat, non-reflective surface. It does not shine under camera flash or tube light, which is the single most common complaint about cheaper abaya fabrics.

It also holds its drape. The fabric falls straight down from the shoulder instead of clinging to the body, and it resists creasing, so it survives a day out or a long journey without needing an iron. It is opaque enough to wear without a slip, which matters in lighter colors where thin fabrics turn transparent in daylight.

Size and length guide

Pick your size from the bust measurement, then pick your length from your height. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one, because this striped abaya is designed to fall loose.

For length, take your height as the guide. A 52 inch abaya suits roughly 5 feet 0 inches, 54 inches suits 5 feet 2 inches, 56 inches suits 5 feet 4 inches, 58 inches suits 5 feet 6 inches and 60 inches suits 5 feet 8 inches and above.

Care instructions

Nida Matte is low maintenance, which is most of the reason we use it. Follow these and this striped abaya will hold its color and drape for years.

• Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or hand wash with a mild detergent.
• Wash dark and light colors separately for the first two washes.
• Do not bleach and do not use fabric softener on the matte finish.
• Do not wring. Press the water out gently and hang to dry in shade.
• Iron on low heat from the inside out if needed. Nida Matte rarely needs it.
